Sanitation, Water and Electricity
Flush toilets that are connected to a sewer network are the most common form of sanitation provision. Approximately 12000 households used this systems based on the census 2001 study. 11000 households used Pit Latrines which constitute a health risk, especially if used over a long period of time. These statistics reflected that sanitation was of a greater urgency in Evaton than the water network.
In Financial year 2006/07, a master plan for sewer and water networks was developed. This, together with the SDF priority densification areas, has highlighted areas of upgrade for the three year period 2007/08 to 2009/10 and beyond.
Engineering infrastructure remains a municipality responsibility and the master plan will have to inform the Integrated Development Plans of the municipality.
Evaton municipality has a backlog in water connections estimated at 23000, Sanitation backlogs estimated at 15000 and Electricity backlogs estimated at 4000 by year 2004. For the three years, a total of 13 175 houses/units have been planned( see functional area- housing for detail). This means the estimated number for connections for the next three years will be commensurate with these densification figures.
The study of the current water and sewer bulk system indicated the following :
