Communications Interns Interview MEC for Housing
The three newly appointed communication interns, from the Evaton Renewal Project, Selinah Qai, Pollar Msiza and Catherine Mosae, were pleasantly surprised (and just a little bit nervous!) when the Gauteng MEC for Housing, Ms Nomvula Mokonyane, popped in to visit them late one afternoon. They were given an opportunity many seasoned journalists would die for… to have a one-on-one interview with the dynamic MEC Mokonyane, a driving force behind the Evaton Renewal Project. This is what they had to say:
“It was really wonderful to get to know the MEC as a person. She is a born leader. She told us about her first community leadership role at the age of fourteen! Her passion is to serve the community and she is proud to serve Evaton. When I asked her where she would like to be in five years, she said that she would like to be even more committed to growing our country’s economy and to delivering goods and services to ordinary people. She advised people to use less electricity so as to avoid power failures.” Selinah Maleshoane Qai
“The MEC had a special message for the youth of Evaton. She believes that the youth need to grab the many opportunities presented by organisations like the Umsobomvu Youth Fund, to empower themselves. She stressed that the youth should involve themselves in government programmes, rather than complaining and doing nothing. It was great to chat with the MEC.” Catherine Ditsietsi Mosae
“MEC Mokonyane said that she likes spending most of her free time with her family, which is not a lot because of her hectic work schedule. She also likes watching the news every day and current affairs programmes. She said that she enjoys finding solutions to problems in her projects. She believes that the ERP has changed the face of Evaton. Poverty has decreased and many people are employed. She said that the ERP has brought a better life for Evaton residents.” Pollar Mamsy Msiza.
