IMPLEMENTATION OF PROPERTY RATES

On 14th March 2009 a meeting was held at McCamel Church between Emfuleni Municipality, stand owners and their tenants regarding property rates. The meeting was set up to determine how much the municipality will charge the stand owners for their stands. Emfuleni officials, ward councillors and the community were also present.

The implementation of property rates is the law which states how municipalities should go about collecting rates for services they render. In this process, the law must be open and transparent to everyone because in the past people did not know how assessment rates were charged.

“The community should have the chance to object. Important role players is Mr. De klerk and ward councillors where they sit down and talk or inform the community about the law” Nkapu Ranake, MMC of Finance, explained.
